Organiser's Comments

Sorry about the weather, everone seemed to blame me as the organiser! Was the week before our summer this year?

I was impressed by how everyone conducted themselves which allowed the event to run smoothly. However most of the queries or problems would have been eliminated if the notes on the event had been carefully read by everyone and all pupils had been fully briefed. Brenda Morgan the co-planner did a tireless job as the pupils left from the start. As a result when she gave a short speach of encouragement at the end of the presentation I am sure I detected a number of croaks in her voice.

Thanks to all the helpers, who need to be on their toes for the period of the event and not grumble about getting wet during the preparation time. It was one of the most enjoyable presentations I have been to. I was gratifying to see everyone keenly greeting the results, especially the team awards. It was also pleasing to receive a very large number of thanks from the teachers.

I have a few unclaimed maps and a pedometer which may or may not have been lost by a competitor.

Well thank you all for coming in such dreadful conditions. Especially the planner and his team of helpers who were out in the worst of it putting out controls, whilst some of you were still in your beds. Also thanks to Sam (daughter) who actually controlled the event, but was unable to be with us on the day due to hospitalisation on Wednesday. And her boyfriend Mark who assisted Sam and who helped me on the day doing the final control check. Thanks also to the many helpers who came along to make the event possible. And the teachers and parents for bringing you.

Congratulations to the winning schools and all the individual winners. Also to all of you that finished the courses, pushing yourself to the end in such conditions. After knowing and seeing all the hard work that had gone in to make the event a success. It was a joy and a pleasure, for me to wonder round the courses observing the enthusiasm being shown by you the young orienteer. The future of the sport.

It was also a pleasure working with the members of POTOC on the day congratulations to them on running a successful event. I Look forward to seeing you all again, in the Wyre forest near Bewdley, When the British Schools Championships are held in November.
