Planner's Comments

There was an excellent turn-out for this event -- 76 participants in total, 65 of whom were from the Scouts. Thanks to Brian and Geoff for the work they did on publicising it. There seems to be a healthy market for a summer evening event for Scout groups. Kibblestone provides an ideal environment for it because it is contained, safe and very difficult to get really lost in.

Thanks to all the POTOC members who turned out to help run the event and to coach the children who were new to orienteering. Thanks to Mark Stodgell for the demonstration of the SI equipment, which went very smoothly. Thanks, too, to the staff at Kibblestone for their co-operation and help in staging the event.

Fortune was on our side. Although it was very windy, the rain stayed away during the event itself. Geoff or I may also have had a very lucky escape. Some time between Geoff visiting control 6 on the difficult course as the last runner and my collecting the control at the end, a fairly large tree had blown down and crashed right on top of the control site. It took a few minutes of delicate manoeuvring to rescue the control. But for the SI unit, I might well have abandoned the banner.
