Weatherwise a good morning. The only Course comment came from Long Hard -- but of those who did tackle it, all completed the challenge well. Apologies to those who found some control markers difficult to spot. We were trying to hide them from potential vandals not from competitors! I am so grateful to Austin and Barbara Farr for their expertise and help and for mapping out the hard course. Also thanks to other members who helped on the day. We did get a few who were trying it for the first time - so our adverts in the Sentinel and Advertiser are paying off.
Also we did get a surprise visit from a local MP, Ms Joan Whalley. Nobody recognised her until she introduced herself. Apparently she lives close by and was delighted that we are using local parks and open spaces for activities such as ours. She also said she walks regularly in the valley and picks up litter when she can. A friend of mine was one of her research assistants and said what a genuine and caring person she was to work for and how she was willing to tackle local issues.
In the registration tent we were just remarking how everyone seems to come early for the 10 am start - giving us a hectic beginning (especially if there are newcomers) followed by a longish lull. So when Brenda, Henry and Geoff appeared on the deadline (all having had problems getting there) we were quite grateful that they were experienced orienteers and would get round pretty quickly. Austin spent all of the morning on the daunting task of updating the Chatterley Whitfield map -- again special thanks.
Another team effort.
