First of all a hearty thank you to the 30 or so competitors who came for the event.
The weather was extremely kind to all of us and also to the control hangers and collectors. I think the vast majority of you enjoyed your courses and found your controls without too much difficulty. This is an area unfortunately challenged by rife vandalism and you may have noted in your travels the enormous volumes of litter that clutter the country views. Regrettably one control on the easy course was vandalised very early on -- 105 a path junction. Although the pin punch was replaced as soon as noticed, by then virtually all competitors had been through this control. Later in the day a further two pin punches went missing on controls 107 and 108. This only affected one competitor.
An attempt to vandalise a further control on the medium course was prevented by the timely arrival by bicycle of the planner, although even then an aluminium stake was never recovered.
Finally despite padlocking the SI units to an available tree "close" to the feature, one of these was levered off its base plate and not recovered.
On the Long Hard course most competitors had difficulty with control 12 and 2 observed that it was incorrectly positioned. Having looked carefully at it when collecting the controls I can confirm that this was the case. Although the vegetation around this control is a little vague there is a clear open area going downhill between the area where the control should have been and its actual position some 30 to 40 metres away. Apologies to those affected. The extent to which competitors were affected by this was largely determined by their chosen attack point.
Lastly, thanks to all of those POTOC members who helped on the day. It would have been a daunting challenge to try to manage this without you.
